THE first stage of the Guernsey Full-bore Rifle Championship was abandoned two weekends ago when a downpour more reminiscent of the tropics made conditions impossible at 500 yards.

It was decided that the 300-yard scores would stand towards the Championship but the bronze medal would not be awarded for 2013, disappointing Ian Donaldson, whose 35.05 ex 35.07 was top score when the rains arrived.

The weather was significantly better for the second stage in which the Guernsey Rifle Club members tackled a Queen's II comprising two sighters and 10 shots to count over 300, 500 and 600 yards.

A former champion, Nic Branch, took an early lead with a 50.05 (ex 50.10) with another former champion, Phil Ogier, pictured, close behind with 50.04.
