AIMEE PONTE has progressed into the match-play stages of the Girls' British Open Amateur Championship.

The Sarnian, pictured, overcame a bad start to her second qualifying round to shoot a second successive 79 for a 10-over-par aggregate of 158 at Fairhaven Golf Club in Lytham St Annes.

Ponte's round started with back-to-back double bogeys as she attempted to secure a place in the top 64 of the 144 entrants.

Two more bogeys followed on the front nine along with a solitary birdie at the sixth to see her reached the turn in 41. She was much more solid coming home with five straight pars followed by consecutive birdies on 15 and 16, but she was to finish bogey-bogey.

After 36 holes, Ponte was placed 51st out of the 144 starters as the top 64 qualified for the match-play stages in which she plays Germany's Finja Schmale this morning.
