De Jersey's 13-year wait is over
ON A day when seven records fell, it was Colin de Jersey who topped that list in some style at the final Guernsey Motorcycle and Car Club hill climb of 2013.
ON A day when seven records fell, it was Colin de Jersey who topped that list in some style at the final Guernsey Motorcycle and Car Club hill climb of 2013.
Whereas the vast majority of records that fall at Le Val des Terres these days are generally only a year or two old, de Jersey broke a mark that had been standing for 13 years.
And in somewhat ironic circumstances, he did so on the borrowed bike of Marc Maubec – the man whose July 2000 record he bettered on the same Holeshot Husky machine.
De Jersey's time of 33.89 in his second attempt beat Maubec's previous mark of 34.13 in the Motorcycles 501cc to 750cc class.
'We always used to share bikes until Marc switched to cars, so I now hold a record on his bike and he holds a separate one on one of my bikes,' said 49-year-old de Jersey.
'I have been aiming to try and break that record for the last 13 years and although always hoped it would come, I was somewhat surprised when it did finally happen on Monday.'
