Woolnough wins at Fight Night at the ICG

EVEN before completing his trilogy win over Bristolian Mike Freeman at a buzzing ICG Centre, Guernsey favourite James Woolnough had agreed to fight one of England's very best amateur light-middleweights.Woolnough will travel to Southampton on Saturday to fight Hampshire man Bradley Pouls, who reached the semi-finals of the national ABAs earlier this year and is rated the England No.4.

'He is supposed to be a big strong puncher so it's going to be a bit of a tear-up,' said Wooolnough, who is full of confidence after his second-round stoppage of Freeman in front of 420 fight fans at the Amalgamated Boys' Club's new venue.

The top-of-the-bill contest looked destined to go the full three by three minutes when, towards the end of the second Woolnough caught the man who he had fought twice before, losing once and winning once, and Freeeman went down onto his haunches and was counted out.

'He was saying that when I hit him with a left hook that the side of the glove went in his eye and he couldn't see,' said the local hero, who reacted ecstatically to the win, standing on the bottom ropes with his arms raised.

'To be honest I don't think he wanted it any more. I'd have carried on with my eye hanging out.

'It was an untidy first round and I think that was down to the animosity between us.
