Guernsey Panthers pleased with weekend's work

NENA COPPERWAITE admits that despite Guernsey Panthers being below their best, they are taking the positives out of a successful weekend away.

The island side put their first two wins of their Division Three South campaign on the board in their debut league season, beating Dreams Two 44-21 and then 39-34.

It all means they are top of the table, albeit by virtue of playing a game more than their rivals and achieved by the two losing bonus points picked up against Meon.

Meon thrashed CD Phoenix Two 58-23 to move to two wins from two, the same record as Eagles Two and Sussex NRG Pumas, who beat Abingdon Centre 55-25 and Brize Jets 44-40 respectively.

But for now, it is solely her own side's fortunes that captain Copperwaite is focusing on and she assessed the double-header weekend.

'We are a work in progress, improving all of the time and taking plenty of positives from the weekend, as well as areas to continue working on,' she said.

'Playing back-to-back games was a new experience for our girls and we were all exhausted after Sunday's game, so to come away with two wins from two is very pleasing.'
