Lewes cruelly defeated the Sarnians with an extra-time golden goal in last season's final in May, a year after the islanders suffered a 2-1 reverse to Gateshead in the previous showpiece despite Guernsey having dominated both games.
Whalley believes, though, that he can now use those memories to his advantage.
'In terms of motivation for effort and ensuring we take our chances, there is nothing like that feeling of losing last year.'
Their hosts London Edwardians will prove to be a difficult obstacle though.
They are a Premier Division Two outfit who are entering the EH Trophy for the first time having lifted the Surrey Cup last season.
