A TRICKY first hurdle has been overcome as Guernsey aim to reach their third successive EH Men's Trophy final.

Captain Matt Watson felt that Sunday's first round match away to London Edwardians featured two sides with the potential to go a long way in the competition, so he was delighted to see his team progress at the expense of the Premier Division Two outfit.

'We did not think we could get many tougher draws in the first round and we were right,' Watson said.

'They play the game in the right way and in many ways are quite similar to us, but I don't think they had too many clear-cut chances, so I think we deserved to win.

'In another year, it could well have been the final.'

Guernsey's goals came from Tim Ravenscroft, Steve Waldrom and Watson.

The Sarnians have been rewarded with a home draw against Woking in the second round, scheduled for 17 November.
