Roadrunner Ponte loving college life

AIMEE PONTE is thoroughly enjoying life as a Roadrunner.

'College life is amazing, I'm loving every minute,' she said from her new base at the University of Texas at San Antonio, where she moved on a golf scholarship in August.

The 'Roadrunners' is the nickname for the UTSA sports teams and Ponte has quickly made the transition to the collegiate golf scene, which is a world away from a weekly 18-hole competition at L'Ancresse.

The three-time Channel Islands women's champion has just concluded the 'fall season' of golf events with her teammates – she is one of two freshmen, or first years, among the six players on the women's golf roster.

Preparations have now started for the spring season, which gets under way at the end of February with the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate event in New Orleans.
