GUERNSEY secured safe passage to the third round of the Now Pensions EH Trophy yesterday on a day when half-a-dozen could easily have been a dozen.

The home side really should have been out of sight against Woking by half-time from the numerous openings they created, but their profligacy was in stark contrast to the visitors who made the most of the rare chances they were afforded.

After being 3-2 up at the break, Guernsey were quickly pegged back to 3-3 early in the second half before they finally turned the screw in the closing stages to run out the convincing winners that their play throughout had merited.

Steve Waldrom scored a hat-trick for the victors while the other goals came from a Matt Watson penalty flick, Andy Alford and Josh Kendal.

'Overall, the team performance was great and our tempo was very good. We were always in control of the tempo of the game,' said player-coach Whalley.

'It was pleasing and on another day we could have scored 12 or 13 with the chances we created.'
