FROM the moment Luke Winch brilliantly shot the champions ahead after just 90 seconds it was going to be a long afternoon for under-strength Vale Rec at the Track.

And so it turned out to be.

Craig Young added a hat-trick and might easily have made it a double one, while Dave Martin added a fifth before Ollie Lepp gave the visitors some consolation with a well-taken effort late on.

The win lifted Bels to the top of the table on goal difference and with between two and four games in hand on all their title rivals it would be a brave man to bet against Glyn Smith's men retaining the trophy.

Meanwhile, Rovers' bid to return to the top of the Priaulx League table failed with a 1-0 home defeat by in-form Sylvans at Port Soif.

Jake Ellis's second-half own goal with the ball coming off his chest gave the visitors their fourth straight victory and lifted them within three points of the league leaders.

At Blanche Pierre Lane, Luke Mollet fired a superb second-half winner for North over St Martin's.

Mollet's 25-yarder flew high into the top corner and as a result of their win North move second into the table above Rangers and Rovers.
