CLUB identity is at the forefront of plans for a new-look league structure for Guernsey cricket in 2014 and – it is hoped – beyond.

Headlined by a new four-team Evening League Premier Division involving the four current weekend 'Super Clubs', the ideas will be discussed at next week's GCB annual general meeting.

If accepted, it would see Cobo, Wanderers, Miton Optimal and ORs battle it out across three leagues – Evening League Premier, Weekend Premier and a Premier T20 grass event, to replace the GPL.

As GCB chief executive officer Mark Latter explained, having pride in a shirt is key to the potential changes, as well as the desire to see the best face the best.

'From feedback we received from players, many were saying that they were wearing too many different shirts throughout the year,' he said.

'These ideas will help to create extra club loyalty because with the new under-11 and under-14 leagues, players can play for the same teams throughout their whole careers.
