JO WATTS, a serious racing cyclist for just nine months and into her forties, is sensationally heading to her first Commonwealth Games.

The time-trial specialist is among six cyclists who along with three athletes and two badminton players, are in the first tranche of 11 competitors selected for next summer's games in Glasgow.

Watts, 41 and sister of former Commonwealth Games swimmer Helen, said she was in a state of shock at the news.

She will have familiar people around her in Scotland with, so far, fellow cyclists Karina Bowie, Marina Bleasdale, Tobyn Horton, Michael Serafin and James Roe, named.
