Rangers aim to end Bels' unbeaten record

HAVING scared them on more than one previous occasion, Paul Ockleford is hopeful Rangers can be the side to finally end Bels' unbeaten start to this FNB Priaulx League season.

In the solitary midweek game, Glyn Smith's reigning champions will aim to move eight points clear of their rivals, with a further two games in hand, which would take their unbeaten run to 12 games.

However, to do so, they will have to beat a Rangers side who pushed them closer on a regular basis than most of their languishing rivals in last season's league title race.

'We are relishing the chance to go to Bels and try to take something from them because although we have some players out, we were happy with the way we played against Rovers,' said coach Ockleford.

'It was actually a really good 0-0 draw and although saying we dropped two points would be disrespectful to Rovers, we did feel like we did enough to win the game and had the better chances.

'Bels are obviously going to be a tough game, they are a very good side, but even when we lost 4-2 at them last time, we were well in the game for a long period and didn't capitalise, before Bels turned into the better side and deserved to win the game.

'But if we had done better at a couple of key moments and got a point out of it, then nobody could have complained too much. The key is to try and get the first goal because that puts any team under pressure and in Guernsey, I believe more games are won through a team's belief than through technical ability.'

Rangers' new signing Wayne Bishop could feature against his former club after playing 30 minutes at the weekend, while Bels coach Smith is able to welcome back Robbie Williams to his team that beat Vale Rec 4-0 on Saturday.

The match kicks off at 7.30 tonight at the Track.
