Guernsey in need of emergency front-row reinforcements
Basingstoke 10, Guernsey RFC 14
ANOTHER fine away win came at a big price for Guernsey on Saturday.
Jordan Reynolds lost two props during the game as both Simon Sharrott and Darrin Bellingham came off with knee injuries, which gives the GRFC head coach a major headache.
With Layton Batiste already sidelined with a knee problem of his own and Cameron Craine about to leave on holiday, Guernsey are looking for emergency front row reinforcements.
In an attempt to find suitable players, Reynolds will be contacting various universities this week in the hope of registering a couple of players for a short period until the injury problems abate.
'I am going to be very busy in the next week trying to find another front row,' said the Guernsey head coach.
'Unlike in some other team sports where you can interchange positions pretty easily, unless you are 120kg and a massively strong lad, you cannot play front row in National Three.'
The loss of two props was the one downside to another battling display that earned an already patched-up Guernsey side four more league points on Saturday thanks to tries from Nick Merrien and Matt Ball, which were both converted by Sam Whitehead.
