Le Poullain tipped for the top after latest victory

AFTER another impressive win, Billy Le Poullain has been tipped to challenge for glory at the ABA championships, possibly as early as next year.

Now 28 fights into his career, and still only 18 years of age, the hugely-exciting Alderney pugilist racked up his 19th win on Saturday night, at the big Beau Sejour Open Show.

His unanimous points success over Majibur Ali saw him pick up the fight of the night award and his performance was eye-catching to say the least.

After a quiet first round in which both men sized each other up, Le Poullain won that particular tactical battle and dominated for the remainder.

Next up for Le Poullain and a number of his team-mates are the national ABA championships, which start next month with the Western Counties stage.

'Billy is still young, it is sometimes easy to forget that, so he has a number of years ahead of him and I think he can go as far as he wants within the sport,' said Amalgamated coach Ben Duff.

'In the shorter term that means doing well and possibly challenging to win the ABA championships and longer-term, it could mean making it as a very good professional boxer, if that's the way he chooses to go.'
