Guernsey have to cope without Zak in EH Trophy quarter-final
MALAYSIA rather than the Midlands is the destination for one of the island's best players this weekend.
Guernsey go into their EH Men's Trophy quarter-final at Streetly on Sunday without the services of Zak Damarell, whose all-round sporting ability has resulted in him representing the island on the international cricket stage in Kuala Lumpur for the time being.
'We are obviously disappointed he is not there with us, but at the same time delighted that he is in the cricket team and has that opportunity to go to Malaysia,' said Guernsey player-coach Andy Whalley.
'Hopefully we are a big enough squad that the disappointment of not having him with us will not affect us too much.'
The absence of Damarell is one of several changes to the squad who beat Letchworth in the previous round with both of the Le Page brothers, Andy and Adam, also unavailable and Josh Kendal also missing.
However, on the plus side there are returns for Colombians pair Matt Watson and Andy Dawson-Ball.
Meanwhile, there is a recall to island colours for Unwantables midfielder Kev Smith and a call-up for Casuals forward Chris Lowin.
