Guernsey Panthers settle for third place

THERE will be no dream first-season promotion but Panthers head into the inter-insular in a fortnight confidence boosted by a superb 39-24 Sunday afternoon win over Brize Jets at Beau Sejour.

Panthers needed to win both their final two matches in Division Three South, but the Jets were quick to sink those hopes, winning their first meeting on Saturday evening, 32-24.

But there was no sign of a team feeling sorry for themselves in the re-match and in front of a good home crowd, including Matt Le Tissier, the Panthers dominated from first to last to not only win by 15 but also to deny the promotion-chasing Jets a single consolation point.

The outcome is that Panthers finish third, while Jets miss out on automatic promotion which goes to the confirmed champions Meon, who won 44-30 against Dreams Two yesterday.
