Street circuit fan Priaulx happy to be at Long Beach

CALIFORNIA is the next destination on the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship calendar for Andy Priaulx and this is a race the BMW Team RLL driver is particularly looking forward to.

Although he has never raced at Long Beach, it is a street circuit and this is an environment he feels totally at home in and loves the challenges such tracks throw at him.

The track will be totally new to Priaulx but he relishes rather than dreads such challenges. 'I love street tracks, so am very excited about it,' he said.

'I am going to approach it like Macau. I like driving close to the walls, as it doesn't worry me and I always feel really comfortable with that.'

As usual, the triple world champion will be sharing the black number 55 BMW Z4 GTLM with America's Bill Auberlen.

While Priaulx appreciates how much he can learn from his teammate about American racing, he also knows sharing a car with him in Long Beach is an added advantage.

Not only does Auberlen come from just down the road in Redondo Beach, but he also won on this track with the team last year.

In the opening rounds of the series in Daytona and Sebring the number 55 car finished second and third respectively in the GTLM class. However, the Tequila Patron Sports Car Showcase this weekend at Long Beach will be a very different event.

The first two races were 24 and 12 hours respectively but this one will simply fly by.

It is just 100 minutes-long.
