Eggo shows his class once again over 36 holes
BOBBY EGGO has won Piccadillys, Butterfields and now Ravenscrofts.
Whatever the name of the trophy on the end of the annual 36 holes scratch event at L'Ancresse - the first major of the season - the former Walker Cup player's remarkable strokeplay consistency tends to come to the top, time and again.
Same again on Saturday when he followed up a pre-lunch one under 69 with a three-under 67 to post 136 and romp to a seven-shot victory from Daniel Griggs who returned 71, 72.
Only this year's triumph was a little different in that it was bolstered by an additional prize, automatic qualification for the big July Ravenscroft Open matchplay at La Grande Mare.
His fellow qualifiers are Griggs, who made such an impact in the inaugural 2013 Ravenscroft Matchplay when nobody knew him from Adam, Jamie Blondel and the day's surprise package, Roland Mills.
Mills will be heading back to La Grande Mare for the big matchplay event, six years after he switched to the Royal Guernsey.
The South African followed up his opening net 71 with a 66 in the afternoon sun for a winning handicap score of 137 and his reward, receipt of the magnificent 85-year-old Brymay Trophy, one of the grandest sporting trophies in island sport.
