Island Golf Championship: Seeds survive but only just
THE big guns entered the Intertrust Island Men's Championship last night and some were given an almighty scare.
All four seeds in the top half of the draw progressed into Wednesday's third round, but only the top seed Bobby Eggo looked comfortable on an evening when Guernsey Golf Union president Petri Lagerstrom was armed with an air horn in case of thunderstorms and the dark clouds seemed to be gathering for some of Guernsey's finest.
As it turned out, the rumbles of thunder remained out at sea, the one glimpse of lightning was way out to the east and umbrellas were only opened for a brief spell late on as the golfers got lucky with the weather and the seeds fought their way into the last 16.
The Blondel cousins, Danny and Jamie, both required an extra hole to beat Wasif Anees and Ross Wheeler respectively while Jeremy Nicolle overcame Neil Tanguy 2 and 1. Eggo had earlier beaten Ashley Northgrave 4 and 3.
Other winners on the night were Wayne Harwood, Tom Weatherburn, Mick Marley and Adie Coquelin.
