Riders racing for British titles on Guernsey sands

VAZON will be hit by the mass roar of sound that is the Condor Ferries Sand Ace Championship on Saturday.

On show will be some of the top UK and CI 500cc solos and 1000cc sidecars in a meeting now established as a British championship event.

The Sand Ace was the brainchild of local 500cc star Anthony Bougourd back in 2006 and it has grown with virtually every passing year.

There are two classes – 500cc track bikes or sliders and 1000cc sidecars.

Both classes will be hotly contested and the solo riders to watch for are Paul Cooper, local ace Bougourd, reigning British champion Danny Warwick, six times Sand Ace winner Mitch Godden, Jersey's Marcus Bisson, Daniel Winterton, Australia's Rodney McDonald, Josh Dingle, Dave Speight and Dave Mears. All could push for the title.

Sidecars are a little more difficult to predict, but watch out for 2012 British champions Rob Wilson and Terry Saunters.

Unfortunately, the reigning champions, Rod Winterburn and Liam Brown, are unable to be here to defend their title.

But look out for Robbie Wilson (son of Rob) and Bradley Steer in what is a top quality line-up this year in which any one of the sidecar teams could take the title.

The event starts at 12.30pm.
