O'Neill and Ponte crowned Channel Islands champions
JERSEY'S Gavin O'Neill was yesterday crowned Channel Islands champion for a third time.
Having recently become the first local golfer to reach plus-four status after he set a new course record around his home track at Grouville, the 2013 Island Games gold medallist saw off Guernsey champion Jamie Blondel within 29 holes of their scheduled 36-hole hole final at L'Ancresse to cement his reputation as the best golfer currently in the CI.
Meanwhile, 18-year-old Sarnian Aimee Ponte claimed her fourth consecutive CI women's crown as she defeated Jenny Deeley 7 and 6.
There was also Guernsey success in the CI junior final as Robbie Garner overcame Jonny Anderson 3 and 1.
Jersey's Mary Marr won the women's bronze division title, winning at the first extra hole against Kathryn Touzeau.
