McLaughlin reflects on National successes

AFTER the week of his racing life, James McLaughlin is hopeful that his National successes have elevated him to a new level in professional cycling.

McLaughlin produced arguably two of the great performances of recent times by a Guernsey sportsman in the national time trial and then road race.

He finished fifth in the time trial in Wales, only being beaten by four world-level riders, including the winner Sir Bradley Wiggins.

And he kept going that brilliant form into the tough road race two days later, finishing 10th and on the same time as the likes of Team Sky rider Geraint Thomas.

'There is still a large part of 2014 left and some big events still to come, including obviously the Commonwealth Games later this month,' he said.

'I will just try to keep producing strong performances and show what I can do, before thinking about what I will do at the end of the season.'
