Durcan to face Eggo in the Ravenscroft Guernsey Open final
BOBBY EGGO overcame the CI champion in a classic while Michael Durcan dethroned the defending champion last night to reach the Ravenscroft Guernsey Open Matchplay final.
In a memorable climax to his encounter with Jersey's Gavin O'Neill at La Grande Mare, Eggo made an extraorodinary birdie at the 18th - hitting his third shot from 200 yards to within 15ft after finding the trees with his drive - to match his opponent's superb four made in more conventional style to take their semi-final down an extra hole.
Playing the first hole for the second time on the evening, Guernsey's best ever golfer then made a brilliant birdie three having hit his approach to 5ft to beat the tournament favourite.
By that time, Royal Guernsey professional Durcan had long since finished having played some impressive golf on his way to a 4 and 3 win over home player Jeffery, who could not buy a putt.
In the plate competition semi-finals played off handicap, Adie Coquelin edged past Graeme Falla 1 up while Mart Jan Groenendijk beat Glen Lindsay 7 and 6.
