Eggo adds Ravenscroft Trophy to his collection

BOBBY EGGO has won the Ravenscroft Guernsey Open Matchplay at the first time of asking.

Guernsey's best ever golfer was unable to take part in last year's inaugural event, but 12 months on he arrived at La Grande Mare as one of the stars in a stellar field and emerged victorious to add one of the very few – if any – titles that had been missing from his CV.

Last night he beat Royal Guernsey professional Michael Durcan 1 up in a real nip-and-tuck encounter which included some high-class golf over the first 17 holes until, having arrived at the last all square, extraordinarily a double-bogey seven at the par five 18th was good enough for Eggo to claim the title after both found trouble off the tee.

'It got a bit scrappy towards the end and obviously the last hole was a complete mess really, but a win's a win,' was Eggo's assessment of the final.

Meanwhile, La Grande Mare member Mart Jan Groenendijk won the Plate competition played off handicap, beating Adie Coquelin 3 and 2 in the final.
