Guernsey Hockey start building for future success

GUERNSEY HOCKEY will soon have a facility that will be the envy of clubs around Britain.

Work has begun on the redevelopment of the Guernsey Hockey Club at Footes Lane, with phase one – which involves replacing the playing surface and fencing as well as upgrading the floodlights – due to be completed by mid-September.

Phase two includes extending the viewing capacity with spectator seating for 120 people as well as extending standing areas from the current balcony.

'We are pretty fortunate with the whole set-up we have at the club,' said Matt Watson, chairman of the Guernsey Hockey fundraising committee.

'When you include the clubhouse and all the facilities, it is generally as good as you will find anywhere in the UK, but what lets us down is the pitch because it's just not suitable anymore for the level of hockey both the island men and the women are playing at now.'
