Kimber plays a real captain's innings as Miton claim title

A TRUE captain's innings saw Miton Optimal return to the top of the tree as Swoffers Weekend Premier League champions on Saturday.

With his side having seemingly done the hard work with the ball, having restricted Next Generation Cobo Tigers to 181, Tom Kimber then had to rebuild the reply that was falling down around him at 51 for four.

However, with the help of 14-year-old Nairn Guilbert, who played with a maturity that belied his years, the Miton skipper made a magnificent 92 to take his side to the verge of victory.

In a way, it was a shame he was unable to see the job through as an excellent catch from Ollie Newey sprinting around to his left on the square-leg boundary ended his knock with four runs still required, but in the context of the game it was perhaps fitting that Kimber received his own ovation before the real celebrations began.
