Lindsay, whose 66 was the best gross score of the day too, finished five shots clear of the field with his eight-under-par net score and although he went into the competition in good form, even he admitted he was 'a bit surprised' to card such a good round.

'I have been having a good run lately and I did quite well in "The Ravenscroft" getting to the semi-finals of the plate so the form was there,' he said.

'But it was certainly a good round in a competition like that. You can make four birdies occasionally when playing a friendly with mates, but to do it in a competition doesn't usually happen to our standard of player.'

In the Le Friquet LGM Ladies Open, visiting golfers claimed the top three places with junior Steph Ballay victorious with 37 Stableford points.

The scratch prize was won by former CI champion and Island Games gold medallist Jan Chamberlain.
