The British No. 1 overcame fellow qualifier Tereza Smitkova 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 in 2hr 16min. in Montreal and will now face 10th seed Dominika Cibulkova, who beat 17-year-old wild card Francoise Abanda 6-1, 3-6, 6-0 in the first round.
