JAMIE NUSSBAUMER'S typical belligerence down the order saved Guernsey from a real hiding at the hands of the Northern Universities Students Select yesterday.

Nussbaumer hit an unbeaten 55 batting at seven and got good support from Jason Martin, who scored 29 at No. 9, but Guernsey still went down to a disappointing 158-run defeat in the first of two 50-over clashes before a T20 clash to finish with tomorrow.
Chasing a massive 342 Guernsey were looking down the proverbial barrel as they went into bat and against tight seam bowling from Roseby, who took 5 for 38, the top order crumbled.
Guernsey eventually mustered 184 all out with the aid of 30 wides.
