Guernsey's 'batting order' a strong one says captain

ON A weekend when both inter-insulars are taking place, it was perhaps fitting that Guernsey golf captain Julian Woodhard used a cricket analogy to emphasise why his side are quietly confident of retaining the Challenge Trophy at La Moye.

'I think we bat a lot further down than they do,' he said.

'They obviously have some top-quality players when you look at the likes of Gavin O'Neill who has reached plus-four, but in terms of strength in depth, I think we arguably have more strength throughout the team.'

The majority of the Guernsey team have earned numerous caps over the years while the youngest member of the team, 18-year-old Jeremy Nicolle, was part of the side who won 12½-7½ at L'Ancresse last year.

The only debutant is Daniel Griggs who, at 46, and with a background that includes playing professionally in Australia, can hardly be described as a novice.
