Thunder rumbled by new-look Resolution Black
NERINE THUNDER A embarked on their title defence with a last-gasp defeat by Resolution Black at Beau Sejour last night.
The champions were leading deep into the game, albeit by a narrow margin, but the introduction of Verona Tomlin and Gemma Batiste was key as Black inched ahead in the last couple of minutes to win 33-30.
Black had Kiwi Emma Bevan making her debut after transferring from Nerine, while in defence newcomer Kat Moon impressed to the extent she was nominated player of the match for her side.
Shelley Jager got the vote for the champions, who have been hit by the loss of Lorna Hall to Resolution Green.
Meanwhile some are tipping Blaze A to finish top and on first night evidence they may well be right.
Nena Copperwaite's young side have clearly benefited from familiarity, the youngsters having spent all last season together and moved on apace.
They swept aside a depleted Thunder B 64-23, capitalising on the absence of Panthers squad duo Jenny Jordan and Lil Bougourd, both of whom phoned in ill.
