Guernsey Panthers name squad to face Dreams Two

NAMING the squad for Guernsey Panthers' season opener was 'one of the toughest decisions in a number of years', according to joint-coach Denise Bourgaize.

The island club team begin their second season in Division Three South in the UK league pyramid on Sunday, when they host Dreams Two at Les Beaucamps High School.

Despite only narrowly missing out on promotion in their debut campaign, competition for places is stronger than ever, according to Bourgaize.

She and fellow coach Tracie Hards have named a dozen for the weekend, which includes 16-year-old Abbie Green, who will make her debut if she features.

She joins older sister Jemma in a squad which includes several youngsters, but also the vast majority of last season's regulars.

And with the match just four days away, Bourgaize admitted that her and Hards still haven't decided totally what their starting seven will be on the new Beaucamps court.

'We have had 15 or 16 training regularly in recent weeks and it was an incredibly tough decision to choose just 12 because everyone is training at great intensity,' she said.
