Guernsey Panthers 37, Sussex NRG Pumas 40
IN KEEPING with the weekend trend for island sides on the UK stage, the Panthers let slip a good early advantage at Les Beaucamps High yesterday to lose by three to visiting Sussex NRG Pumas.
Jemma Green enjoyed an excellent afternoon in the shooting circle, but despite her fairly exceptional goal conversion rate of 85 per cent, Pumas gradually starved the young star of possession and, in a tense last quarter, Guernsey felt the pressure to the extent that they slipped six behind before a late splurge of goals brought them close.
'They have got to learn to believe in themselves,' said a 'gutted' joint coach, Denise Bourgaize, afterwards.
'We've also got to stop making the unforced errors.
'You can't make those errors and get away with it.'
