Panthers need to improve fast admits captain

NENA COPPERWAITE admits that Guernsey Panthers 'must learn quickly' after their home Division Three South defeat to Sussex NRG Pumas.

The Sarnians surrendered an 13-8 lead and a 29-28 advantage going into the last quarter thanks to some sloppy play to lose out 40-37, although it isn't all bad news for the Guernsey girls.

Despite the defeat, they sit second in the eight-team league after two games apiece, with every side except leaders Eagles Two having lost a game each.

Getting within five goals of Pumas' total gave Panthers a losing bonus point that means they are a point clear of CD Phoenix Two, Wokingham and Sussex NRG Pumas.

However, that doesn't change captain Copperwaite's firm view that things must get better - and fast - as her side get ready for a trip to Swan Centre in 12 days' time.

'It is really frustrating and also really disappointing because all of the problems were brought on ourselves, with stupid mistakes that cost us the game,' she said.
