Le Page set for a starting role

GUERNSEY PANTHERS will cope without three regulars when they travel to face Swan Centre.

After losing out at home to Sussex NRG Pumas in their last encounter, joint coaches Denise Bourgaize and Tracie Hards will demand a response from their side in their first away trip of the season on Sunday.

They are without the experienced trio of Lorna Hall, Donna Brehaut and Kristy Webber, all of whom are unavailable, which means call-ups for Laura Bygraves and Hannah Dunnell.

Cassie Le Page is likely to take Hall's position as GK and Bourgaize has backed her to excel in a starting place which she could keep for the next away game next month, when Claire Green is unavailable.

'In the past, we have been really worried about when players are missing through injury or on holiday because we haven't had the players to replace them,' said Bourgaize.

'But now, we have quality players coming in to replace equally quality players and while I will not deny that Lorna is a big player for us, I am absolutely confident Cassie will do just fine.

'Those who are missing will have to work hard in training to win back their bibs because this is a fantastic opportunity for others to shine.'

Bourgaize also says in the aftermath of the Pumas defeat, some honest thoughts were put forward in the next training session, from everybody.

'It is brilliant that nobody is scared to say anything and everything that went wrong was brought up and hopefully has been addressed.

'The culture we have means it isn't just me or Tracie barking our orders, the players are involved as well and are free to give their views on how things went.'

Guernsey Panthers squad: Steph Batiste, Laura Bygraves, Nena Copperwaite, Hannah Dunnell, Amy Fallaize, Claire Green, Jemma Green, Charlotte Hill, Shelley Jager, Cassie Le Page, Isla Murdoch.
