The best achievement of Warwick's career
DARREN WARWICK mixed it with Europe's best to finish seventh in the open category class of the inaugural European Hill Climb Masters last weekend.
Held in the tiny Luxembourg town of Eschdoorf, the event was heavily-reduced in length due firstly to fog and then heavy rain, meaning only two timed runs were possible.
But despite having to cope with gearbox problems across the two days, Warwick recorded a best time of 52.72sec. up the 1.8km hill to finish 17th overall out of a total of 138 drivers.
Impressively, he was the second fastest two-litre car present, with Christian Merli, from Italy, beating him in that regard.
'I was chuffed to bits about being the second fastest two-litre there, which was the best achievement of the lot for me and probably the best of my whole career,' Warwick said.
'The whole weekend was fantastic, just to be up against these guys – the big names from around Europe – was incredible and the support of the spectators was astonishing really.'
Warwick was one of two Guernsey drivers in action, with Paul Buckingham also receiving a FIA wild card and finishing 24th overall in a time of 53.74.
