In her final race of the season, the Commonwealth Games cyclist finished fourth overall in the National Closed Circuit Championships held over five laps of the Thruxton Race Circuit in Andover – an event won by British Paralympic heroine Dame Sarah Storey in 26min. 52sec.

Bowie, 43, clocked 28-41 to finish fourth in a strong field, also taking her age-group title.

'It had been an incredibly rewarding and exhausting year with 12 trips off island to race at national level and also at the Commonwealth Games, but has been a very rewarding year and great experience,' Bowie said.

Bowie has had a successful year with her Trainsharp team having won national gold team medals in both the 50-mile and 10-mile time trials, bronze in the Team Time Trial Championships and is also age-group national champion in both the 50 mile TT and closed circuit time trial.

Prior to the Commonwealth Games Bowie also broke the island 25-mile time trial record by 10 seconds.
