Return to Beau Sejour can give Panthers the edge

GUERNSEY Panthers return to Beau Sejour this weekend as they look to get their Division Three South promotion bid back on track against Wokingham.

Their two previous home games this season have seen the Sarnians move temporarily to Les Beaucamps High where they have won one and lost one.

But such is the league's competitiveness, Panthers could end the weekend anywhere between second and bottom, with three points separating everybody with the exception of runaway leaders Eagles.

Panthers captain Nena Copperwaite expects a response, though, as she hopes the performance from the first quarter of the Swan Centre defeat will serve as inspiration on Sunday afternoon.

'For the first quarter against Swan, when we were level at 12-12 at the end of it, we were absolutely fantastic and I was thinking that this is what we are really capable of,' she said.

'But then it all went wrong and I hold my own hands up because I was absolutely terrible in that game and our worst player, but I also think that we continue to be a bit too nice.

'This is absolutely a must-win game for us because although it is still early days in a tight league, we can't afford to be losing three of our first four.

'It will be tough because Wokingham came down from Division Two during the summer and came within one goal of Eagles in their last match, so are obviously a strong team.'

Sunday's game starts at 1pm.

Guernsey Panthers squad:

Nena Copperwaite (captain), Steph Batiste, Amy Fallaize, Claire Green, Jemma Green, Abbie Greening, Shelley Jager, Kim Le Lacheur, Cassie Le Page, Isla Murdoch, Kristy Webber.
