Five-point deduction for Guernsey Rugby Club
GUERNSEY have been hit by a five-point deduction that has seen them fall to bottom of National Three London & South-East.
The club have been found guilty of not complying with RFU regulations in the matter of Layton Batiste's suspension following his red card against Hertford at Footes Lane on Saturday 11 October.
Although the GRFC issued the prop with a two-week suspension after his dismissal for throwing a punch, it did not come into effect until after the following weekend's match away to Amersham & Chiltern.
It is understood that the club delayed the punishment until they had received the official report about the sending-off incident and that did not arrive until the week after the Amersham game.
However, a recent change in RFU regulations no longer permits such a delay to a suspension and Batiste was, therefore, in effect ineligible to play in the 17-15 win over Amersham.
The club have admitted their error and director of rugby Jordan Reynolds revealed that they will not be appealing the penalty.
