The 14-year-old Guernsey mountain biker will be one of 13 cyclists under the age of 16 on the programme, which involves up to 20 weekends per year.

Held mainly in Manchester, the long time home of British Cycling, the Sarnian teenager will attend his first session on Saturday 7 December.

Guernsey Velo Club president Gary Wallbridge is delighted for one of his young charges in a club that is the envy of many others from around the UK.

'It is fabulous news and a real privilege for Sam to be invited because clearly they see something special in him moving forward to hopefully one day racing for Great Britain,' he said.
