Socking it to them for Max

GUERNSEY will take to the field tomorrow in specially coloured socks as part of a charity day in memory of Max Craine, the son of first-team prop Cameron and his wife Keeley who they tragically lost to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome in May.

'Keeley and I lost our son Max six months ago and we wanted to do something in his honour. He would have been one on Saturday and because his birthday coincided with a game, we decided to have the event then,' said Cameron, while modelling the socks – one in the green-and-white colours of The Ivy Trust, the Guernsey charity chosen by Keeley, and the other in the blue-and-yellow of The Lullaby Trust, a London-based charity chosen by Cameron.

In May next year Keeley and Cameron will be trekking a 45km section of the Great Wall of China in Max's memory, with all the funds raised for the trip going to their chosen charities.

Tomorrow the GRFC will be holding a raffle and a silent auction as well as selling hot food and cupcakes to help in the fund-raising.

'Max was one of the first babies to arrive out of our group of players really and he became known to all the people at the club straight away, so when we lost him it came as a shock to everyone, but the club have just been fantastic and really supportive to us,' Cameron said.

The fundraising will get under way at noon at Footes Lane, with Guernsey's match against London Irish Wild Geese kicking off at 1.30pm.
