'Kings' of the past in merger
TWO of the island's leading Evening League teams – Rovers and St Pierre – have merged and will start the new 2015 season as St Pierre Rovers.
Rovers, who are the most successful team in Evening League history with 17 outright and three shared titles, will join forces with the 2013 champions in a reduced four-team Division One playing on grass to emulate international T20 conditions.
The newly-merged club are planning to have teams in Divisions One, Two and Four, with Rovers captain Lee Savident believing it was the only sensible course of action.
'Of course, it's never ideal to merge clubs with over 100 years of cricket history between us, but with other sports increasing their profiles the playing numbers are simply not available with the required commitment levels,' he said.
