Guernsey show character to claim Ambassadeur Bowl
GUERNSEY regained the Ambassadeur Bowl against a disappointing Jersey at St Peter FC on Saturday with the visitors showing great character after conceding an early goal.
Jamie Mourant shot the hosts ahead with a fine individual effort in the seventh minute only for Guernsey to equalise through Paris Pereira following a fine move before the break.
Guernsey substitute Kyle Smith scored what turned out to be the match-winning goal deep into the second half – after his initial effort came back to him off a crossbar.
'We deserved to win the game,' said Guernsey coach Angus Mackay.
'We dominated the second half and I was pleased with the goals we scored because they were both good goals.
'We were on the back foot for a while after Jersey's goal, but once we regrouped we played much better.'
