New president Collins makes history

GARRY COLLINS has become the first Guernseyman ever to be elected president of the British Isles Bowls Council after being voted in at the weekend.

At the age of 35, he is also comfortably the youngest person to hold the position in the 112-year history of British bowling after the unanimous vote in Manchester.

He will hold the position for a year after spending the last 15 years involved in every British Championship in either a playing or administrative capacity.

'I am extremely proud and although there aren't too many events in a year and therefore the workload isn't huge, this is the highest honour you can get in British bowls,' said Collins.
