Watson's run ended by Suarez Navarro
WORLD No. 13 Carla Suarez Navarro brought Heather Watson's memorable run at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells to an end yesterday.
The British No. 1 from Guernsey had reached the last 16 of a WTA Premier Mandatory event – the tier below the Grand Slams – for the first time in the Calfornian desert thanks to wins over Julia Goerges, Camila Giorgi and seventh seed Agnieszka Radwanska, the latter being her first-ever victory over a world top-10 player.
She carried that form into her fourth-round encounter with Suarez Navarro and impressed in the first two sets against the Spanish No. 12 seed before running out of steam in the third in a 7-6, 3-6, 6-1 defeat.
'It was definitely a battle,' said Watson, who added: 'I'm pleased with this week and how I've done.'
