New Island record for Munro at British Champs

GUERNSEY'S Miles Munro says it has been a hard slog to get back to full fitness but believes he is starting to show his true ability at this year's British Swimming Championships.

After a shoulder injury last year kept him out for two months, Munro came into the championships at the London Aquatics Centre hoping for the best.

He produced a solid swim in Wednesday's 100m freestyle heats, where he clocked a personal best time of 50.35 seconds – shaving 0.4 off his previous best.

And while there was no final berth for Munro to celebrate, he insists he is starting to find his rhythm in the pool ahead of today's 50m freestyle.

'It was 0.4 seconds off my personal best so I am so pleased with that because I have moved to Bath University and have had to get used to a new programme,' Munro said.

'It's been a tough year and I picked up a shoulder injury after a massive summer so to get a personal best after all of that was amazing. I had some inflammation in the shoulder and that put me out for a few months which was frustrating.
