Guernsey 32, Jersey 56
A BLISTERING start helped Jersey to inflict netball inter-insular misery on Guernsey for the 10th successive year with another thumping Beau Sejour success.
Yesterday's defeat also rounded off another period weekend dominated by the Caesarean visitors, with only the men experiencing Sarnian victory of the eight matches played.
Going into the showpiece 'senior A' contest, there had been much talk from the Guernsey camp that this could well be the year they won for the first time since 2005.
But from the off, a brilliant Jersey side were far, far too good for the gallant hosts, who had little answer as those wearing red romped into an early 15-2 lead.
It was the sort of advantage they were never going to squander and they gradually extended it as the match progressed, although the second half would be far closer.
Chasing a 31-13 deficit at the halfway point was always going to be too much to ask but the Guernsey coaching duo of Denise Bourgaize and Tracie Hards were proud of their players' efforts.
Their best spell of the match came for a few minutes early in the third quarter when they briefly rattled Jersey, but the Jets in all but name weathered that particular storm effectively.
Jersey would still edge that 15-minute spell 10-9 as part of a second half that they won by six.
