McLaughlin ruled out of the Island Games
JAMES MCLAUGHLIN will not compete at this summer's NatWest Island Games after being left out of Guernsey's cycling team due to his professional commitments.
However, his Madison Genesis team-mate Tobyn Horton is part of the 14-strong team who will make the trip to Jersey in less than two months' time.
There had been uncertainty whether or not the island's two pros would be in the team and Guernsey Velo Club president Gary Wallbridge explained the reason behind McLaughlin's omission.
'His team have a big race at the end of that week that they believe will suit James' strengths of time trialing and climbing perfectly, so we have no problem with that because his professional career and progressing in that has to come first,' he said.
A notable inclusion, though, is debutant Jo Watts, who competed at last year's Commonwealth Games, but is currently recovering after being knocked off her bike last month.
