Guernsey off to the perfect start

THE hard work is paying off.

Published

That was Guernsey captain Jamie Nussbaumer's reaction after his side got off to the ideal start with two wins on the opening day of the ICC European Division One T20 Championships in Jersey on Saturday.

Playing both their fixtures at Grainville, the Sarnians began their campaign with a 21-run win over pre-tournament favourites Denmark – their first ever win at senior level over the Danes – before they overcame Division Two champions Norway by 23 runs.

'Absolutely delighted with today,' said Nussbaumer.

'We said from the outset that our minimum expectation was to beat Norway and France at this tournament and turn over at least one of the bigger sides, but to get that first win over Denmark was one of the best feelings I have had on a cricket field – it was awesome.'

Guernsey have matches against France and Italy today before completing their campaign against hosts Jersey, who have also won two from two so far, on Wednesday.
